Night with Ballycotton King,

A large contingent turned up for this unique experience to listen to Irish running legend Noel Berkley. Noel spoke about his vast experiences around the world which included Barcelona Olympics in 1992. People got an insight into how this living legend expressed his training regimes and nutrition tips.

Noel relived many of his memories of what can only be described as an incredible career. Qualifying for the Olympics to World Championships became the norm for this remarkable man. Describing himself as the Eric Cantona of Irish Athletics, Noel certainly entertained us with his stories. Running 2:15 in the marathon and being disappointed shows how much appetite this man has to being the best.

Race Reports

Cross Country

Michelle Kenny had another superb run in the Munster Novice Cross Country Championships where she finished 5th overall and 3rd scoring lady on the Cork team. Well done Michelle you did your club proud again. Team Captain Sally Drennan and Anna Doris were unable to travel today. Looks like more medals for Michelle as I’m sure she could start opening a shop pretty soon.

Orlaigh Farmer who is fresh off winning an All Ireland Medal in football won the u/23 category.

Well done Orlaigh.

Our ladies are flying this year in Cross Country.

Rebel Run:

Well done to all who turned up for Inaugural Rebel Run 10k in Bishopstown.

John Hennessy led our club home with a fantastic time of 37:19 and impressive 6th place for his last outing before heading to the Capital next week for the Dublin Marathon. Legend that is Tom Cody was next man home followed by Club Captain Edmond O Sullivan who returns to the race scene after months on the sideline. Simon Fitzgerald was next man home as his good form continues week after week. Yvonne Sheenan was our first lady home followed by Catherine Terry, Reyes Heina and Ana Cannon. Well done ladies.

Helly Hannsen Killarney

Well done Trish Daly who competed in the Helly Hanson adventure race in Killarney a few weeks ago. Seems to be a growing trend on adventure races, if I missed anyone else please let me know.

Ceili

Margaret Twohig organised a Ceili on Sunday 21st last in aid of Cancer Research and Cystic Fibrosis in CUH, a total of €980 was raised for these good causes. A raffle was held in aid Hatti and €810 was raised for this great cause.

People travelled from Longford, Dublin, Tippereary, Kerry, Clare, Waterford and Cork to support this fantastic event.

Ceili Organiser Margaret Twohig was out for almost all sets as she showed John Meade from St Finbarrs a few moves. John won the rebel run that morning, fair play to him for coming out to support a great event. See Pic

Our Club Captain Edmond O Sullivan was in flying form on the dance floor. See Pic below.

Other club members dancing too to many to name but a few were Colette Barry, Nora Savage, Denise Hickey, Tom Cody and Pat Walsh.

Lots of club members turned up in force to help out with the catering, many thanks to Colette Barry, Sinead Buckley, Ann Marie Perry, Joan McCarthy, Danny McCarthy, Ciara Baldwin, Ronan Macmanus, Denise Hickey, Vicky Cleary, Trish Macropolous, Nora Savage and Martha McNamara.

Margaret would like to thank all club members for their support and to Club Captain Edmond for his warm and welcoming speech to everyone who turned up for the occasion.

Marathon Brunch

A marathon brunch was held in Sage on Sunday 21st. This was organised by Deirdre Aherne and gave club members the opportunity to discuss the forthcoming Dublin Marathon.

Plenty of chat about PB’s and first experiences. It was a lovely morning for the last long run before tucking into a breakfast / lunch before the big day.

Beginners Class

News from the beginner’s class is that it’s thriving with new membership with an average of 30 people per night. I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to the club. Keep it up.

Well Done Vincent.

Please note thats next Wed 31st is the last day for registering. No new members will be accepted after that date so please do not bring friends along etc to try out as refusal can put them off running. They are welcome to come along (with some fittness) in late Dec or Jan. and join up for next year.
Danny
