East Cork Road Racing Championships

Double Gold For Midleton AC Teams

On a fantastic night of running our teams came home victorious with both Ladies and Men's Teams taking Gold Medals. The Ladies were the first off in a race of 2Km. packing well together they held their positions until near the finish where they were left only battling with each other for places. Our first lady home and winner of an individual bronze medal was Sheila Buckley and how very well deserving of it she is. Its wonderful to see the hard work starting to pay off. She was followed two seconds later by Anna Doris who led the Ladies Team to victory follow six seconds later by Eileen Leahy showing she is well suited to the shorter distance. The third scoring member of the team was Esther Murphy staying solid and holding her place well. All our ladies ran extremely well and did their club proud. Gillian Bransfield who ran fantastic on the hill had a great battle with Louise Barry with Louise holding on by one second. Only one sad event in that unfortunately Helen Gilroy's hamstring acted up in the first fifty meters. Speedy recovery hopefully Helen.

 Sheila Buckley Bronze Medal Winner

Esther, Eileen and Anna Gold Medal winners With Martin Drake Chairman of East Cork Board

Declan, Andre, Brain and Paul Gold Medal Winners.

Our Men's Team did fantastic as well. Led home by Brian Harty in a great run of 30.24 followed by a brilliant run by Paul Spiteri who finished in 30.39. Paul who made a mad dash from work to make the race in time was well deserving of his medal. Followed five seconds later (30.44) by Declan Dorgan who did Paris Marathon only two weeks ago whilst four seconds later came Andre Brodkorb. He was closely followed again four seconds later by Rod Scanlan 30.52 whose legs were bound to be tired after his victory last weekend. All our others had powerful runs as well. So well done guys and girls a job very well done. We are extremely proud of you all.
