Marathon Monday A Day Of Agony and Ecstasy

It really was a day of highs and lows, agony and ecstasy for our athletes out there doing the marathon. Bitter disappointment for those that had to drop out or did not achieve the times that they had worked so hard for. There are no excuses being offered every single one of our members out there gave it their all and for quite a few it paid off. Several people had superb runs .Eugene McCarthy our first man home in a time of 3.01 just outside breaking the magic three hour mark. Don Ryan, Mick Murphy, Helen Gilroy ,Deidre Aherne, Claire Fitzgerald all getting PBs. whilst Mark Walsh had the great run he promised and knocked over ten mins off his PB. and then we had the great results of our first timers Michelle McGrath, Susan Fitzgerald, Paul Fleming, Richard Power. All our other runners had great runs too and maybe not PBs but you cannot get a PB everyday. One of the best runs of the day was Anna Doris who was one of those who got PBs with a time of 3.11.14 finishing 38th female and 3rd in her cat. which is amazing considering she was beaten by two former Olympians.
The one thing that came across to me today was how much we have improved and come together as a club. Runners were not satisfied with PBs they wanted better and no doubt will get them. Also what a fantastic supporters club we had up there. People travelling up for the day and the weekend just to cheer on or run with their club mates also they way they cheered on other Cork clubs .I have been getting compliments on the clubs behalf since the race finished on the quality of our supporters.
So well done each and everyone who ran and supported also once again you have done your club proud.

We made the Papers and the News

Once again we made the papers this time its the Mirror as someone said its a bit of a comedown from the Irish Times with Louise and Claire last year. But Claire is there for the second year running. So she must have that special something that attracts the photographers.
Then we had Peter Gunning on the TG4 Nuacht with his cupla focail.
